Hartford Athletic News Release
Hartford Athletic have signed Wethersfield, CT native and University of Hartford alum, Jimmy Slayton ahead of the 2022 season, pending league and federation approval. Slayton is the third Connecticut player to sign with the club this season, joining Bloomfield's Rashawn Dally and West Hartford's Pearse O'Brien.
"Since the club's inception, I've always had an eye on Hartford Athletic and I'm so excited to see my journey lead me back to my hometown club. Hartford has done a great job building the club up rapidly in a short period of time and I'm grateful that they brought me in to help this group get to the next level," Slayton said. "I had a great experience playing club, high school, and college soccer in Connecticut and I can't wait to get out there in front of my family and friends while representing the local soccer community. This season will be a special one."
Slayton attended Wethersfield High School before playing four years at the University of Hartford, where he had a stellar career for the Hawks. Over four seasons, Slayton made 74 starts, tallied 293 saves, and recorded a program record 21 career shutouts. The shot stopper highlighted the 2016 America East All-Rookie Team and was an America East All-Conference Second Team selection his senior year.
"One of our main focuses has been to sign a goalkeeper who will push Austin Pack every day, and Jimmy Slayton is that guy," said Hartford Athletic Head Coach Harry Watling. "A starter at any other club, Jimmy has not just come here to support, but he wants to compete and play. It's another formidable signing for our roster."
Slayton joins Hartford Athletic after spending the last two seasons with Real Monarchs SLC, where he totaled 1,217 minutes across 13 starts and recorded three clean sheets.
Hartford Athletic will kick off the 2022 season on the road against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on March 19th. The Boys in Green will open the doors to Dillon Stadium on April 2nd at 7 PM against Atlanta United 2 for the Home Opener.
