Detroit City FC News Release
DETROIT, Michigan - New USL Championship (men's) and USL W League (women's) entrant, Detroit City Football Club, is partnering with regional networks across the state of Michigan to air live matches for the 2022 season. Last year was the first time in the Club's history that both men's and women's matches were available across all of Michigan's Designated Market Areas. This year, supporters can expect at least 23 matches in the Detroit and Lansing markets. Additional markets will be announced at a later date.
For the first time, the DCFC men will have 2 USL Championship matches nationally broadcast on ESPN linear networks: April 15th home match vs Birmingham Legion FC and June 18th home match vs El Paso Locomotive FC.
Additionally, with the exception of nationally broadcast matches, all DCFC men's matches will be live streamed on ESPN+. International broadcast partners include ESPN Latin America (Latin American and the Caribbean), OneFootball (Italy) and YouTube (all other international markets).
"As our club continues to evolve, we are excited to grow soccer in our community and region, through broadcast. This year marks our biggest broadcast strategy ever, designed to reach our supporters in Michigan and beyond," said T.J. Winfrey, Detroit City FC Chief of Partnerships. "When you look up and see our club on ESPN networks, it is a testament to on the pitch success and the community of supporters that have propelled Detroit City FC to represent our city and region, on a global stage."
Returning to the broadcast booth to call Detroit City FC matches will be two names familiar to Le Rouge faithful...
Neal Ruhl has been "The Voice of DCFC" since 2015, and was named Hour Detroit Magazine's "Best of Detroit 2020" award winner for best sports play-by-play broadcaster in Detroit. He has also worked as the play-by-play voice for the Detroit Pistons, Chicago Bulls, Oakland Golden Grizzlies and national soccer broadcasts for the USL and NWSL.
John Kreger returns for his sixth season in the color analyst's role. He is also the play-by-play voice for Michigan State University Volleyball and several sports on the MHSAA Network. He has served as a host and correspondent covering soccer for talkSPORT radio in the United Kingdom, and has covered the Detroit Lions for ESPN Radio and CBSSports.com.
"With this move to the USL Championship, it's more important than ever that DCFC supporters have a knowledgeable and familiar team in the broadcast booth. Neal and John stand out in our region for their experience calling and analyzing the game, and above all their knowledge of Le Rouge is unparalleled," said co-owner Alex Wright.
Ruhl and Kreger will team up for all home USL Championship matches, and Ruhl will be the voice of Le Rouge for selected away USL Championship matches as well.
2022 marks the first seasons for Detroit City FC Men in USL Championship and Detroit City Women in the USL W-League. The men's regular season will begin on March 12th and run through October 15th. The women's side will run from May through July.
