Chicago Fire FC News Release
CHICAGO (July 20, 2015) - Major League Soccer announced Monday that the Fire's Homegrown midfielder Harry Shipp has been selected to the 22-man roster for the 2015 Chipotle MLS Homegrown Game against the Club America U -20 team at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo. on Tuesday, July 28 at 8 p.m. CT as part of the 2015 AT&T All-Star Game festivities.
"It's an honor to be named to the Homegrown team, especially for the second year in a row," said Shipp. "I think it says a lot for this club. Hopefully I represent this club to the best of my ability out there and I'm really looking forward to getting out to Colorado and seeing all the other guys."
This is Shipp's second consecutive year taking part in the Homegrown game. In the inaugural 2014 edition, Shipp wore the captain's armband in the second half of a 0-0 draw against the Portland Timbers U-23 side.
Shipp signed with the Fire on Jan. 9, 2014 after captaining Notre Dame to their first ever NCAA College Cup. A Chicago Fire Juniors North youth product and a member of the Fire Academy in 2009 and 2010, Shipp also spent the summers of 2010-13 with the club's PDL and Super-20 sides. The Lake Forest, Ill. native made history when he started against the Portland Timbers on March 16, 2014, becoming the first Homegrown Player to appear in a MLS match for the Fire.
Currently in his sophomore season, Shipp has score two goals and tallied a team-leading five assists in 19 matches. Shipp is the only player on the Fire roster to have appeared, and started, in all 19 games this season.
Tickets to the match are now on sale and are available at www.chipotlehomegrown.com.
The MLS Homegrown team will be led by LA Galaxy and U.S. National Team legend Landon Donovan. As the head coach, Donovan selected the MLS Homegrown Team's gameday roster from a pool of Homegrown Players nominated by MLS clubs.
