New York Red Bulls News Release
HARRISON, N.J. (July 20, 2015) - New York Red Bulls midfielder Sean Davis has been named to the Gameday Roster for the 2015 Chipotle MLS Homegrown Game by head coach Landon Donovan.
Davis will unite with some of MLS' best young talent to take on Club America's Under-20 team on Tuesday, July 28 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park at 8 p.m. ET. The match will be streamed live on MLSsoccer.com as part of the lead up to the 2015 AT&T MLS All-Star Game in Colorado.
The roster was selected from a pool of Homegrown Players nominated by all 20 MLS clubs.
Davis, a native of Holmdel, N.J. signed with the Red Bulls as the ninth Homegrown Player in franchise history on December 11, 2014. Through the first half of the 2015 campaign Davis has made six appearance, including three starts, and recorded one assist in league play. He scored his first professional goal on June 16 in a 3-0 win over Atlanta Silverbacks FC in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
The 2014 All-ACC First Team, 2014 ACC Midfielder of the Year and two-time All-ACC Second Team selection spent the last four seasons at Duke University where he was a NSCAA All-South Region second team honoree in 2014, and was voted Duke's offensive MVP after the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Davis was also a part of the Red Bulls U-23 team that captured the NPSL Championship at Red Bull Arena in August of 2014.
In four collegiate seasons Davis amassed eight goals and 17 assists, including an ACC-leading 10 assists during his senior year in 2014. Davis was also a finalist for a Senior CLASS Award. The CLASS award, which gets its name from an acronym for "Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School", aims to recognize senior student-athletes that excel in four areas - community, character, classroom and competition.
The Club América U-20 team is the official youth squad of Mexico's most successful club, which has recorded 12 Liga MX titles, five Copa Mexico cups and five Campeon de Campeones titles. Club América took home the 2015 CONCACAF Champions League title after defeating the Montreal Impact this past April.
Davis and the Red Bulls host the Philadelphia Union tomorrow, July 21, in a quarter final match in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Kickoff at Red Bull Arena is slated for 4 p.m. ET, with a live stream of the action available through www.newyorkredbulls.com.
