Harris's Grand Slam Leads Champions to Victory
July 23, 2018 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Ottawa Champions News Release
OTTAWA - It was a complete performance by the Ottawa Champions - dominant pitching, hot hitting and sublime fielding - as they beat the Quebec Capitales 10-1 at Stade Canac in Quebec City on Monday evening.
The Champions put the game to bed relatively early on. Ottawa got seven runs across in the second inning, with six of them coming via the long ball. CF Chase Harris hit a grand slam - his first big fly as a Champion - and RF Steve Brown followed suit with a two-run shot of his own, his seventh homer of the season.
Ottawa would add to their lead in the third and fourth innings, with LF Coco Johnson and 3B Jordan Caillouet driving in the runs.
The Champions sent RHP Jordan Kurokawa to the mound and he turned in another lights out performance. The Hawaiian went eight innings, giving up a lone run while striking out six. Kurokawa is only the fifth pitcher in the Can-Am League to record seven or more wins this season.
Harris may have gotten the headlines for his four RBIs and jaw-dropping diving catch in the eighth inning, but DH Sebastien Boucher also had an impressive day, going 3-for-5 and crossing the plate twice. Johnson also chipped in three RBIs.
Ottawa will play Quebec again tomorrow, Tuesday, July 24 at 7:05 p.m. as part of their week-long Quebec road swing. They will return to RCGT Park on Tuesday, July 31 to face the New Jersey Jackals. Tickets for all Champions home games are available at www.ottawachampions.com, in-person at the RCGT Park box office, or by calling 613-745-BALL (2255).
