Harrisburg Heat News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - Heat forward Tom Mellor tied his own single-game franchise record for points with six but they were not quite enough Saturday night as the Harrisburg Heat lost to the Cincinnati Saints 9-8 in a Professional Arena Soccer League match at the Tri-County Soccerplex.
The loss dropped the 3-6 Heat into fifth place in the Eastern Division, one-half game behind the Saints (4-6) as both teams continue to chase Detroit (5-5) for the division's third and final guaranteed playoff spot.
The Heat will get a chance Sunday to move closer to the Waza with a 3:05 p.m. game at Detroit.
Mellor's six-point night started with a goal just 26 seconds into the game.
From there, though, the Saints scored six straight goals, including three in a 67-second span of the second quarter, to take a 6-1 lead at the half.
The Heat then staged two frantic comebacks, starting with a three-goal outburst in the third quarter to trail only 6-4 heading into the final period, which started with David Schofield scoring off Mellor's second assist to cut the Saints' lead to 6-5.
Cincinnati's lead jumped to 9-5 with three goals in less than five minutes before the Heat, using the sixth attacker, picked up two goals from Kenneth Fultz and another from newly signed Chris Hall to move within one goal at 9-8 with only 33 seconds remaining in the game.
Mellor had assists on Fultz's second goal of the game and Hall's first as a pro, giving him six points and matching the team's single-game points record he set three weeks ago with five goals and an assist in a 9-8 victory over Detroit at the Equine Arena.
