Ontario Fury Game Notes - January 11, 2014

January 11, 2014 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
Ontario Fury News Release

LAST GAME: Lost 6-5 (OT) at Turlock Express,

NEXT GAME: vs. San Diego Sockers, Jan. 19, 4 p.m. at Citizens Business Bank Arena

LAST ACTION: The Ontario Fury remained winless on the road, falling in overtime to the Turlock Express in the first of back-to-back games in Northern California.

Tiguinho had a pair of goals, while Bernie Lilavois, Majell Aterado and Joey Pulido (his first of the season) each scored single goals in the loss, which was ended 4:31 into the sudden death period as Martyn Arista scored his third goal of the game for the Express. It was the Fury's second overtime loss of the season, falling to Las Vegas 11-10 at home earlier in the season.

GOING FIRST: Friday night's game was the first time this season where the Fury scored the first goal of the game and went on to lose. Ontario was 3-0 in games in which it had scored first going into the game in Turlock. On the flip side, Ontario is 0-7 in PASL action when giving up the first goal.

NORTHERN EXPOSURE: This is the Fury's first road trip north of the season, as its previous trips have taken it south from its Inland Empire base. Friday's game marked only the second road game in the United States, having played three of its previous four road games in Mexico (at Mexico, at Monterrey, at Saltillo). The only other road game the Fury has played was in San Diego. The road has been unkind to the Fury, as they have unable to pick up a win away from Citizens Business Bank Arena, being outscored 66-28 away from home.

FURY IRON MEN: Because of injuries, visa travel issues and other conflicts, the Fury have only had two players in the lineup for all of Ontario's matches this season - including preseason and US Arena Soccer Open Cup games. Forward Mikel Palmerin and defender Jeff Bader have been on the scoresheet for each game this season. Palmerin is third on the team in points (11) and goals (7), whiel Bader ranks fourth in points (10) and second in goals (8). The two players' appearances also trump coach Bernie Lilavois, who missed one game due to a suspension.

CLOSE TO HOME: Fury goalkeeper Sanaldo may have taken the loss in Friday's game, but he put in another solid performance in front of friends and family, as he makes his offseason home in Sacramento. His six-goal, 11-save performance helped lowered his season goals against average to 7.00 and raised his save percentage to .595 for the season. It was the fourth time this season - in seven starts - that he has given up six goals or less.

POWER ISSUES: After a perfect 2-for-2 power play performance against Toros Mexico at home, the Fury struggled again with the extra man against Turlock, failing on all three chances Friday night. The Fury is converting 25 percent of its chances with the extra man this season. On the defensive side of the equation, the Fury raised its penalty kill percentage to 59 percent with an 0-for-2 showing Friday night against Turlock.
