HarbourCats Complete Sweep of BlueJackets

July 9, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Victoria HabourCats News Release

Who knew solid starting pitching, a barrage of hits and great baserunning led to victories.

The Victoria HarbourCats flushed out a series sweep with an 8-2 victory over the Kitsap BlueJackets on a Spinnakers Winning Wednesday -- how fitting is that, right?

The HarbourCats improved to 11-16 with their third straight win, all over the visiting BlueJackets, and sending Victoria to a six-game road trip on a winning note. And on a night when a fan was gifted a trip to Hawaii by her husband (lucky lady!), all was well at Sports Traders Diamond at RAP, with 1,398 having a great time.

Griffin Andreychuk was 3-4 with a run and an RBI, but the HarbourCats got a big early boost on a two-run home run by Jake Pries, whose second bomb of the year staked Victoria to a 2-1 lead and led him to a 2-5 night with a run and three driven in.

Alex DeGoti, playing third base, was 2-4 with a run, Ben Polshuk was 2-5 with a run, and Scott Jarvis was 2-3. In total, the HarbourCats banged out 13 hits but struck out just three times.

Deuces were wild -- the Cats scored twice in each of the first, sixth, seventh and eighth innings, and never trailed.

Kitsap, meanwhile, was limited to four hits by Victoria pitching, scoring once in the third. Matt Blais got the win with one hit given up over 5.2 innings, walking three and fanning six. Henry Omana, Nick Wojtysiak, Shawn Kennedy and Tei Vanderford, making his HarbourCats debut, cleaned up the remaining innings.

The HarbourCats head to Klamath Falls, Oregon for a three-game series that runs Friday-Saturday-Sunday, then move on to Medford, Oregon, for the second part of the trip, Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday.

The HarbourCats are next home in a crucial series against the Bellingham Bells on Thursday, July 16, the start of a three-game homestand heading into the all-star break. That first game is the highly-anticipated Black Press Baseball Card Giveaway Night.

Stay tuned for key promotional announcements about surprise game promotions on July 24, July 25, and July 28, the latter with Columbia Fuels.
