July 9, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Medford Rogues News Release
MEDFORD, OR - After last night's lightning and thunder storm, the Medford Rogues and the Corvallis Knights resumed play of the second and completed the third game of the series tonight at Harry and David Field. Both games resulted in a Knights win, giving them the series over the Rogues. With the wins, the Knights improve to 12-15 in league play while the Rogues drop to 12-15 for the season so far.
The second game resumed play in the fifth inning where things left off the night before with the Knights leading 5-1. The Rogues were unable to fight back for the win as the Knights added two more runs to end the game with 7-1 score line and even the series at 1-1.
The Knights started game three determined not to drop any more games on the road by jumping to a 2-0 lead in the second. The Rogues answered with a run in the bottom of the second but a run in the third followed by a grand slam from Corvallis first baseman Michael Farris put the Knights firmly in the driving seat. What looked like a Medford comeback with three runs in the sixth cut the visitors lead to 9-4 however, the Knights held firm to see out the game with a 10-5 win and head home with the series.
On offense, the Rogues were led by first baseman Nathan Etheridge who made four appearances at bat for two hits, one run, and one RBI. Etheridge's batting average for the season sits at .225 for the season. Right Fielder Stefan Panayiotou also had a solid night with three at bats for two hits, one run, and one RBI while his batting average for the season improves to .286.
AJ Dean started on the mound for the Rogues in game three. Dean pitched 3.1 innings giving up eight hits for seven runs, all earned, while walking two. Jalen Fuhriman, Aaron Schwark, Dustin Hughes, and Daniel Ferrell all made appearances on the mound for the Rogues.
The Knights were led by pitcher Ryan Walker who pitched 5.1 innings giving up only four hits for four runs which were all earned. Walker also walked one and struck out five. Walker recorded the win for tonight while Dean picks up the loss.
The Rogues next travel back to Bend to face the Bend Elks in a three game series. The Rogues will return home July 13 for a six game home stand starting with a three game series against the Victoria HarbourCats. First pitch is set for 6:35pm.
