Hall's Perfection Continues

O'Fallon, MO - The Southern Illinois Miners continued to stay perfect with Cody Hall on the mound as the Miners defeated the River City Rascals 10-5 on Wednesday evening at TR Hughes Ballpark. Hall went five innings, gave up four runs off seven hits and four walks with two strikeouts. The Miners had fourteen hits in their victory.

River City got on the board first with a two RBI single by third baseman Charlie Lisk in the bottom of the first inning to give the Rascals a 2-0 lead. The Miners jumped ahead of River City in the top of the third inning 3-2 off Rascals starter Doug Shields with a RBI double by Carlos Mendez and Cannon Lester. Chris Anderson added a RBI ground out to second base in the inning.

The Miners added more runs in the top of the third inning off Shields with a RBI single by Ken Gregory to make it 4-2. Jason Ganek provided a RBI ground out to give the Miners a 5-2 lead and Carlos Mendez capped off the inning with a RBI double to give the Miners a 6-2 lead.

Rive City refused to go away as they scored two runs off Hall in the bottom of the fourth inning to make it a 6-4 game. Hall left after the fifth inning and handed the game over to reliever Nick Cicio, who pitched 2.2 innings and gave up one hit and struck out two batters.

The Miners added another run in the top of the eighth inning to extend their lead 7-4. A fielders choice by Jake Kaase allowed Cannon Lester to score off an error by Rascals first baseman Chris Andreas. The Miners scored three more runs in the top of the ninth inning as Chris Anderson hit a double and a RBI to make it a 8-4 game. Cannon Lester added a base hit and RBI with Cory Harrilchak topping the inning off with a sacrifice fly to give the Miners a 10-4 lead.

Brandon Cunniff pitched in the bottom of the ninth inning against his former team and gave up three hits and one run to give the Miners the victory 10-5 over River City. The Miners improve to 50-35 on the season and remain six and a half games behind Traverse City in the Eastern Division.

The Miners will send Brian Fowler to the mound in search of the series win over the Rascals. He'll be opposed by Liam Ohlmann of River City. First pitch will get underway at TR Hughes Ballpark at 7:05 pm.
