Hagerstown Suns News Release

The Suns complete their series with Delmarva this afternoon at 5:05 p.m. at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Hagerstown offers LHP Jackson Stoeckinger (1-2, 3.46 ERA), while Delmarva tosses southpaw Matthew Hammonds (2-2, 3.64 ERA) to start off a bullpen day.

SHOREBIRDS CLOUD SUNS WITH EIGHT-RUN FIRST: Hagerstown was buried by an eight-run first inning for the Shorebirds that saw Joan Adon leave the game after just one-third of an inning pitched in a 12-3 loss at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium Saturday night. Adon (L, 6-3) faced nine batters and allowed eight of them to reach base safely before he was lifted for Jared Brasher. Brasher finished the inning and pitched the second and the third scoreless. The brunt of the labor fell upon lefty Ryan Williamson . Williamson allowed four runs through as many innings, but all of them scored in the fourth. Chandler Day finished the game, working a 1-2-3 eighth inning for Hagerstown. Robert Neustrom , Seamus Curran , Ryne Ogren and Alexis Torres all had multiple RBI on the evening and Torres finished a home run shy of the cycle. Torres tripled in the first, doubled in third and singled in the fourth. His final at-bat came in the sixth, when he walked. He ended the eighth on-deck.

ROAD WOES: After dropping a season-high eight consecutive road games against the Rome Braves, Hickory Crawdads and Delmarva Shorebirds, the Suns 2019 road record fell to 14-30. That's compared to a 21-22 record at Municipal Stadium this season. The only team on pace with the Suns road record in the northern division is Lakewood, who sports a 13-30 road record and a 19-18 home record. Delmarva holds the best road record in the South Atlantic League, a 30-14 mark that's nearly even with their 31-11 home record in 2019.

STOPPING AT THE BUCK: The Suns finished yesterday just 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position. The Suns have now tallied just seven hits in their last 50 opportunities with runners threatening over their last 35 innings at the plate. It has dropped their mark to .239 on the season.

MASTER MENDOZA: Last night, Drew Mendoza finished 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. The third-round pick has made a quick impact in Hagerstown. The Florida State-product has reacehd base safely 11 times in his first five games in the South Atlantic League. If that weren't enough, he has also tallied three extra-base hits while driving in four runs in his opening week in the South Atlantic League. Mendoza is slashing .421/.522/.579 through 23 plate appearances in the South Atlantic League.

EARLY WALLOP: The first inning has provided the two biggest single inning scores for opponents this season. April 28, the Greensboro Grasshoppers tagged Jake Irvin and the Suns for nine runs--the biggest single inning the Suns have allowed this season. Last night, Adon went just one-third of an inning while allowing eight runs, all of which were earned.

TAP THE PEN: Ryan Tapani has bounced between starting and coming from the pen this season. The righty has now played in 17 games and started five on the bump--matching last season's total. The Creighton-product spun 7.1 innings of scoreless relief since June 29, setting down seven via the strikeout while allowing just three hits.

BAD-LUCK LANTIGUA: Edison Lantigua finished 0-for-5 last night, which isn't too abnormal, but Delmarva's left fielder recorded four of Delmarva's first 12 outs as he hit four times in the first four frames.
