
Hafner Makes Rehab Start as Aeros Fall to Fisher Cats, 7-2

AKRON, OH - The Akron Aeros dropped game one of a three-game series to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7-2 Tuesday at Canal Park.
Travis Hafner made a rehab start for the Aeros going 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. Jason Donald was also in the lineup for Akron going 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Right-hander Joel Carreno picked up the win for New Hampshire tossing six innings, giving up one earned run on three hits, walking four and striking out eight.
Southpaw Kelvin De La Cruz was saddled with the loss for the Aeros lasting 3.1 innings, giving up six earned runs on three hits, walking six and striking out two.
The Aeros (31-34) scored first in the bottom of the second inning. Hafner led off with a walk. With two outs, Nick Weglarz walked and Donald followed with an RBI single scoring Hafner and giving the Aeros a 1-0 lead.
The Fisher Cats (38-25) erupted in the top of the fourth inning. Travis d'Arnaud led off with a single. Mike McDade and Moises Sierra drew back-to-back to walks to load the bases. The Fisher Cats tied the game 1-1 on De La Cruz's third straight walk. With one out and the bases full, De La Cruz issued back-to-back walks as New Hampshire jumped in front 3-1. De La Cruz was lifted for right-hander Bryan Price, who allowed three more runs to score to make it 6-1. All six runs were charged to De La Cruz.
New Hampshire added a run in the top of the sixth inning to make it 7-1.
Akron scored a run in the home half of the eighth inning, but drew no closer as New Hampshire went on to the win.
The Aeros and Fisher Cats will continue their three-game series Wednesday. Akron will give the ball to right-hander Joe Gardner, who is 3-5 with a 4.47 ERA in 2011. He will face fellow righty Henderson Alvarez, who is 3-1 with a 3.10 ERA on the season. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard on Fox Sports 1350 AM or online at sportsradio1350.com. Wednesday also features SportsTime Ohio's "All Bets Are Off" with Bruce Drennan live at Canal Park from 3-6 p.m. Gate B opens early at 4:30 p.m. A special ticket discount is available by using the promo code STO at akronaeros.com. Wednesday will also feature an "All Bets Are Off" Happy Hour with $1 beer from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Wednesday is also the $1,000 Cash Dash. 30 lucky contestants will be selected to grab as much money as they can from the outfield at Canal Park. Contestants will be given 60 seconds to collect as many of the 1,000 $1 bills as possible. 20 contestants have already been chosen, 10 additional contestants will be randomly selected from Wednesday's crowd.
Lastly, Wednesday is This City Reads! Night featuring a book drive, where fans can bring a gently used book to the ballpark and receive a free ticket to the game.
