
Gwinnett Splits Doubleheader in Rochester

The Gwinnett Braves split Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rochester Red Wings at Frontier Field. Gwinnett (57-59) won game one 6-0 and Rochester (42-80) won game two 10-3. Gwinnett is 5-1 on their current road trip.
Game One
It Was Over When: Braves pitching held Rochester to one hit. Scott Diamond and Stephen Marek combined for seven innings of shut out ball, walking none and allowing only one Red Wing to reach base.
Braves Beat: On the Mound: Diamond went five innings giving up only one hit and striking out four. Throwing only 20 pitches (14 strikes, 6 balls) Marek blanked the Red Wings in the final two frames. At the plate: Brandon Hicks (1-for-3, 3 RBI) and JC Boscan (1-for-3, RBI) each homered in the contest. Freddie Freeman hit his 28th double of the season and finished 1-for-3.
The Opposition: On the Mound: David Bromberg picked up the loss in 5.2 innings of work. He finished with 3 H, 5 R (2 ER), HR and 4 K. Anthony Slama relieved Bromberg and went 1.1 IP with H, R/ER, HR and 2 K. At the plate: Jair Fernandez had the only hit for Rochester, a single in the 3rd inning.
Game Two
It Was Over When: Entering the bottom half of the 6th inning with a 3-3 tie, the Red Wings scored seven runs off the Gwinnett bullpen to take a 10-3 lead. The seven-run inning ties a season-high for Rochester (June 15 @ Toledo). Reliever Rob Delaney would shut down the G-Braves in the seventh to secure the win for Rochester.
Braves Beat: On the Mound: Ortegano went 5.0 IP, allowing 3 R/ER while posting 5 K's and BB. Lee Hyde gave up 2 R/ER in 0.1 IP and Michael Broadway allowed 5 E/ER in his 0.1 inning of work. Cory Gearrin gave up two hits, but was able to close out the sixth without any further damage. At the plate: In his Gwinnett Braves debut, Orlando Mercado (1-for-3) hit a three-run homer in the second inning. Barbaro Canizares and Brent Clevlen both went 2-for-3.
The Opposition: On the Mound: Anthony Swarzak went 6.0 IP, yielding 3 R/ER while striking out three and giving up seven hits for Rochester. Delaney relieved Swarzak to pitch a scoreless seventh. At the plate: Brandon Roberts went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI. Brendan Harris and Matt Macri, both 2-for-3, each had 2 RBI for the Red Wings.
On Deck: Gwinnett plays game three of the four-game series Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at Frontier Field. G-Braves RHP Todd Redmond (9-10, 4.32 ERA) is scheduled to face LHP Glen Perkins (4-9, 6.08 ERA) of the Red Wings.
