ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Minor League Baseball clubs attracted more than 9.3 million fans last month, raising the industry's season total to 30,785,858. The increase of 419,650 fans through July represents a 1.4% hike in attendance, compared to 2009.

Given the tough economic times our clubs and fans face, it is encouraging to see our attendance running slightly ahead of last year," Minor League Baseball President Pat O'Conner said. "While we continue to feel the ill effects of the downturn in the economy, our clubs are committed to continuing to provide affordable family entertainment for our fans. An increase to date in attendance is validation of our product and our clubs' efforts."

The 176 clubs that charge admission averaged 3,990 fans a game in 7,716 openings through July. The league leaders in average attendance per opening through last month were Lehigh Valley (9,171, International); Sacramento (8,932, Pacific Coast); Monterrey (6,731, Mexican); Reading (6,456, Eastern); Jacksonville (5,283, Southern); Frisco (8,239, Texas); Lake Elsinore (3,316, California); Wilmington (4,586, Carolina); Charlotte (2,806, Florida State); Dayton (8,559, Midwest); Lakewood (6,004, South Atlantic); Brooklyn (7,258, NY-Penn); Spokane (4,729, Northwest); Greeneville (1,451, Appalachian); and Ogden (3,752, Pioneer).
