Norfolk Tides News Release
The Gwinnett Braves pounded out 11 hits as they rolled to a 7-1 win over the Tides on a rainy Sunday night at Harbor Park.
The game was called after seven innings due to inclement weather.
Former Tide Felix Pie led Gwinnett's offense with a home run and an RBI double, while Brian Friday doubled twice and scored two runs. The win snapped the Braves' eight-game losing streak while halting Norfolk's winning run at five games.
Norfolk had allowed just three earned runs over the first five games of the homestand before yielding five earned runs in Sunday's defeat. The Tides have still posted a 1.50 ERA over the first six games of the final homestand of 2012.
Jair Jurrjens (4-6) was the beneficiary of the offensive outburst, as he allowed one run on three hits while striking four in five innings of work.
Ryan Adams had two of Norfolk's five hits, including a solo home run in the fourth inning. Adams has now hit safely in three straight games, batting .417 (5-for-12) with two runs scored.
Tides starter Zach Petersime (0-3) took the loss after yielding two runs on five hits in a season-high five innings. Petersime did not walk a batter while striking out three as he threw 47 of his 68 pitches for strikes.
The two clubs will wrap up their 2012 season on Monday afternoon at Harbor Park, with first pitch slated for 12:15. Jake Arrieta (4-4, 4.24) will take the mound for Norfolk against left-hander Sean Gilmartin (1-1, 4.28).
