TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the second game of a three-game series at Coca-Cola Park (5:35 p.m.). The Herd will play tonight and then again tomorrow afternoon against the IronPigs to close out its 2012 season. The Bisons have won three straight and are 34-36 on the road this season.
vs. IRONPIGS: The Bisons are 8-6 against the IronPigs this year. With a victory tonight, the Herd can clinch the season-series victory over Lehigh Valley. The only other year the Bisons had a winning record in the five-year history of the IronPigs was 2010 went they went 10-6 against them. The Bisons are 4-2 this season against the I-Pigs at Coca-Cola Park.
OH JENRRY: RHP JENRRY MEJIA makes his 10th start and 26th appearance for the Bisons this season. The righty has fared much better as a starter with a 2-2 record and a 1.94ERA in 46.1 innings of work (37H, 24K). Mejia last pitched on Monday and lost to the Red Wings. However, he has worked six innings in each of his last three starts and has posted a 3.50ERA in those outings.
MVP: OF FRED LEWIS extended his hit streak to 11 games last night. Since August 22, the outfielder has hit .375 (15-40) with three doubles, three home runs and eight RBI. Lewis leads the Bisons in average (.294), doubles (26), triples (7), extra-base hits (46), slugging percentage (.482), runs scored (80) and 25 stolen bases.
THE CLOSER: RHP FERNANDO CABERERA has made 56 appearances for the Bisons, two more than any other pitcher in the International League. The total is also just one game shy of Rich Batchelor's 1990 record of 57 appearances. Cabrera -who was named to the Bisons "ËAll 25 Seasons' Team last month- also leads the league in saves (22) and games finished (48).
BISONS BITS: The Bisons are 39-39 against the IL North so far, including a 21-17 mark in divisional road games. The Herd has season series wins over Syracuse (10-6) and Rochester (9-7)...The Bisons are 34-36 on the road this season. The last time the team finished at .500 in road games was 2007 (36-36). Buffalo hasn't had a winning road record since 2004 (42-31).
METS UPDATE : The Mets (63-70) scored four runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Marlins, 5-3, on Saturday. Former Bisons C KELLY SHOPPACH drove in the game-winning runs with a two-out single in the ninth. RHP JEREMY HEFNER allowed just two runs in six innings of work. The Mets take on the Marlins today at 1:10 p.m.
