Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Northern Swing wrapped up Sunday afternoon with a visit to the North Bay Memorial Gardens for a meeting with the Battalion. The game marked Matthew Struthers returning to North Bay for the first time since being reacquired by the Owen Sound Attack earlier this month. Mack Guzda got the start for Owen Sound, while North Bay went with Cameron Lamour. Lamour was acquired just this weekend from the Sarnia Sting by the Battalion and would be put right into action for Ryan Oulahen's club. The Attack would be wearing their black jerseys against the green and white clad Battalion.
The Battalion came out of the gates motivated and outshot the Attack through the first ten minutes of the period 7-3. Guzda was forced to be sharp, making a flurry of saves to keep the Troops off the board. Owen Sound had their own sessions of pressure in the period, but it was North Bay that got on the board first. With just over five minutes to play in the period, Brandon Coe found Brad Chenier alone in front of the net for the opening goal of the game. At the end of the 1st, Daylon Groulx helped lead the Attack through an extended shift in the Battalion zone but they couldn't beat new acquisition Lamour and they would go to the first intermission down 1-0.
Mack Guzda became the star of the show in the second. The Battalion offensive continued in the middle frame and Guzda had to be at the top of his game, making 18 in the 2nd. The Attack had an early power play after Lamour played the puck outside the trapezoid, but the team was unable to convert. After Owen Sound went to the penalty kill at the halfway point, the Battalion spent the next two minutes in the Attack zone. Guzda shined and was able to turn away the consistent pressure and keep the Attack in the game. Even after the penalty kill expired, the Battalion were putting pucks on the Attack net. Once again, Owen Sound put up pressure at the end of the period but were unable to convert. Shots on goal after two periods of play were 30-18 for the Battalion.
When the third period began, it started to look like the Attack would never score on Cameron Lamour. But after two Battalion players collided with each other in the defensive zone, Sergey Popov was able to lay it up for Matthew Struthers who scored in his return to North Bay to tie things at one apiece. Less than a minute later, Logan LeSage kicked a rebound out to Josh Samanski who found the back of the net for his first career OHL goal and the 2-1 lead. Mack Guzda continued to shut the door on the Battalion offense and after Barret Kirwin found the empty net, the Attack found themselves on the winning end of the game 3-1. Shots on goal at the end of the game were 37-27 for the Battalion.
The Hatten Home Building Centre Hardest Working Player of the Game was Mack Guzda. The Owen Sound Bug Juice North Stars Three Stars were Cameron Lamour, Matthew Struthers and Mack Guzda.
The Attack return to the Bayshore Wednesday night to meet the Kitchener Rangers for their final game before the Christmas break. Tickets are available at the MacVicar & McComb Sutton Realty Attack Box Office and online.
