December 15, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Brampton Steelheads News Release
Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga Steelheads returned to the Paramount Fine Foods Centre for the third game of their 3-in-3 weekend on Sunday afternoon to take on Shane Wright and the Kingston Frontenacs.
Kingston thought they scored the opening goal, as Shane Wright walked in across the blue line and took a shot on Kai Edmonds, but the goal was waved off due to an offside. Nick Isaacson left a drop pass in the slot for Duncan Penman, who made no mistake in beating Christian Propp up high as the Steelheads took a one goal lead. Kingston remained without a shot on goal through the midway point of the first period. The Frontenacs tied the game while shorthanded as Zayde Wisdom walked into the offensive zone 1-on-1 with Thomas Harley and took a wristshot that fooled Kai Edmonds. Calvin Martin made a nice pass to Aidan Prueter who was behind Kingston's defence, deked out Propp and scored on an open net. At the end of the first period, the Steelheads led 2-1 and outshot the Frontenacs 17-7.
Penman increased the Steelheads lead to two goals early in the second, as he took a wristshot from the point that found its way past Propp for his second goal. Martin fed William Portokalis a no look pass for an easy tap in to make the score 4-1. After a physical end to the period, the Steelheads took their lead into the locker room with Kai Edmonds stopping 7/7 shots on goal in the frame.
Kingston attempted to crawl their way back into the game in the third period, but had yet another goal waved off due to a kicking motion. On a scramble off the faceoff, Dawson Baker picked up a loose puck and beat Edmonds low blocker to cut the lead in half. Aidan Prueter scored an empty netter for his second goal of the game. The Steelheads would hold on to win their second game of the weekend by a final score of 5-2.
Steelheads forward Calvin Martin led the offense, as he registered three points (3A). Duncan Penman scored two goals, while Aidan Prueter added two points (1G, 1A) to help secure the victory. Keean Washkurak extended his point streak to six games with an assist.
Following the game, Aidan Prueter spoke about his recent strong play "I'm definitely a team first guy, so as long as we are winning I'm happy, but individual success is definitely second. When you're struggling like I was at the start of the year it's definitely tough. Our coaches were really good about it, just going to them to help my confidence."
