Lansing Lugnuts News Release
BURLINGTON, IA - Matt Gunter gave up one run in six innings for the second straight start, Ryan Noda drove in Chavez Young three times, and the Lansing Lugnuts (12-8, 55-35) started a six-game interdivision road trip with a 6-2 win over the Burlington Bees (4-15, 34-54) on Wednesday night at Community Field.
The Lugnuts have a 6-1 record at Western Division teams this season.
Gunter (Win, 2-3) gave up only three hits, all to Burlington designated hitter Kevin Williams. He struck out one, walked two, and held the Bees without a run until Spencer Griffin drove in Franklin Torres with a groundout in the sixth.
The combination of 3-4 hitters Young and Noda carried the majority of Gunter's run support: In the second inning, Noda doubled off Burlington starter Max Herrmann (Loss, 1-4) and came home on a Ryan Gold RBI single for a 1-0 lead. In the third, Young doubled and Noda followed with an RBI triple. In the fifth, Young walked, stole second and scored on a Noda double. And in the seventh, Young tripled and Noda delivered him with a sacrifice fly.
Reggie Pruitt added a terrific individual effort, stealing two bases and dashing home on a throwing error by catcher Alex Olmeda, and Gold provided a second RBI single for the Lugnuts, who snapped a three-game losing streak.
Andrew Deramo gave up a run in the seventh inning on an Alvaro Rubalcaba sacrifice fly.
Kyle Weatherly set down the final six batters perfectly, striking out two in the ninth, to extend his scoreless streak to 15 innings.
Left-hander Jordan Barrett makes his Lugnuts debut on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. (6:30 p.m. local time), opposed by Burlington right-hander Oliver Ortega (3.96 ERA) in the middle game of the three-game series.
The Lugnuts next return to Cooley Law School Stadium on a Winning Wednesday, July 18th, opening a six-game homestand with the Peoria Chiefs and the Cedar Rapids Kernels. To purchase tickets, visit lansinglugnuts.com or call (517) 485-4500.
