Guns N' Hoses game puts Police and Firefighters on ice

January 22, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Iowa Chops News Release

This Saturday, law enforcement officers and firefighters from the Des Moines metro area, and surrounding states will face off in the fourth annual Guns N' Hoses charity hockey game to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Iowa (MDA).

"This is a great way to raise money for a great cause that we all believe in," says Sergeant Dave Mulford of the Des Moines Police Department. "We all love the sport and the friendly competition. It is enjoyable to do something you love for the greater good."

This year's goal is to raise $20,000 through ticket sales, a sport memorabilia silent auction and a live "jerseys-off-their-backs" auction of unique Iowa Chops game jerseys (see below) worn during the game on Saturday. Following the game, these specialty jerseys will be auctioned off to the general public with the proceeds going to MDA.

The game will also feature a Teddy Bear Toss. All fans are being encouraged to bring a teddy bear or other stuffed animal to the game. After the Iowa Chops score their first goal, fans can throw the teddy bear or stuffed animal onto the ice. The items will be collected and donated to the Des Moines Police, Fire and EMS Departments.

Other fun family attractions this year include clowns, face-painting, balloon art and a safety booth. Join the fun at 3:45 p.m. this Saturday and get the extra perk of the Iowa Chops game that follows. Tickets are as low as $10 each and are good for both games: the charity game as well as the Iowa Chops against the San Antonio Rampage game at 7:05 p.m. Fans may purchase tickets through the MDA by calling 515-453-9489, by visiting www.iowachops.com or by contacting the Iowa Chops at 515-564-8726.
