The San Diego Gulls were edged 3-2 by the Ontario Reign at Citizens Business Bank Arena. The Gulls scored two power play goals to improve their league-leading mark to 22.1%. The game marked the 200th regular contest in Gulls AHL history where the club has earned a 117-68-10-5 record (.623%). Tonight also marked the 100th road contest in club history.

Kalle Kossila scored his 18th goal of the season and 100th career point (34-66=100). His 48th point of the season tied a career high of 14-34=48 points set as a rookie in 2016-17 as he became the second Gull to reach the 100-point milestone (also Corey Tropp). Kossila's power-play goal also tied Giovanni Fiore for the team lead in goals.

Escondido, Calif. native Austin Ortega collected his first career multi-assist game (0-2=2) and second career multi-point game. With the two assists, Ortega now has six points (1-5=6) in his last six games.

POSTGAME QUOTES

Head Coach Dallas Eakins

On the game

I'm actually quite encouraged. I thought it was the best game we've played in at least a month, maybe even six weeks. We were emotionally invested, we had a high work ethic. Our guys were all in and I thought that game could have easily tilted in our favor with a break here or there.

On the power play

We've got our looks. Even during the time where we weren't putting up the big numbers we were still getting our chances and that's the thing I always looks for on the power play. Are we upholding our vision and values that we have on it. We've stuck with that all year. And are we getting the chances that we call them the looks that we want, and we are. We were able to get a couple tonight, and I wish we could have finished on a couple of those 5-on5 chances with those pucks laying around the net because I think it could have got quite interesting.

On tomorrow night's game vs. Ontario

I've always thought that our crowd is definitely a sixth skater out there or a seventh man. They have a very impactful affect and influence on our players and it's always been a positive one. That's what we're looking for and I would expect nothing less from our fans. They're passionate, they've always uplifted us whether things are going good or bad, and I hope we can get the same effort from our group as a thank you before we move into the next season.
