Dube Records First Pro Point and Multi-Point Game in Heat Loss
April 7, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Stockton Heat News Release
SAN JOSE, CALIF. - Dillon Dube recorded his first pro point, an assist on Stockton's first goal and added his second assist later in the game, but a four-goal third period helped the San Jose Barracuda send the Heat to a 7-3 defeat at the SAP Center on Saturday. The Barracuda got off to a lucky start as they took the lead off a play to the front of the net where it goes off a Heat defender and in, however, the Barracuda lead would only last 13 seconds before Oliver Kylington drew the Heat even by scoring on the team's first shot of the contest. Stockton would take the lead moments later and hold onto it until the second period when San Jose tied the game up and took the lead off rebounds to put the Heat in a precarious situation. Colin Smith would tie the game up early in the third period but the Barracuda rattled off three-straight goals to end the game and send a blow to the Heat's playoff hopes. While not eliminated from postseason play, the Heat road to the postseason will prove tough. Texas now has a chance to clinch a playoff berth tonight with a win, but the Heat could catch the San Diego Gulls for a potential final spot, but the Gulls cannot advance past 76 points (currently at 74). The Heat return to Stockton Arena on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. to host the Ontario Reign for Wing It Wednesday, where fans can enjoy $.50 wings and $4 bottomless popcorn and then head down to Ontario on Friday where the Heat will clash with the Reign for the final time this season at 7:00 p.m. Stockton closes the regular season out by hosting San Jose one final time at Stockton Arena on Saturday, April 14 at 6:00 for Fan Appreciation Night. QUOTES
"I was lucky enough to get secondary assists on both of them and fortunate enough for guys to bury them. It felt good obviously, a relief, and I felt like I could really start playing my game. It's nice to get that off my back but it's too bad it didn't really have an outcome in the game." - Dillon Dube on recording his first pro point and pro multi-point game
"They bounced back pretty quick and it deflated us. After that, they just kept getting bounces, which was tough." - Dube on San Jose answering back moments after the Heat tied the game
"It's just one game at a time, you can't look past any one of them. We just have to worry about what we can control, and whatever falls into our lap will be nice. Hopefully things do work out." - Dube on the team's mentality knowing their playoff situation
"We weren't good enough today. It's a tough situation because we've had a lot of hockey in a short period of time, mixed with some travel, and in those situations, we have to play smart. Tonight, we were loose, sloppy and high-risk, and when you play that way, you're not going to win. It comes from the details of the game and our play away from pucks. In those situations, we weren't good enough tonight." - Coach Ryan Huska on his team not playing a "smart" game against San Jose
"When you're sloppy and not playing an intelligent game, you make mistakes. We made a bad play at our blueline trying to play through someone and it comes back and ends up in your net. It's a result of not playing smart in that situation and doing the right things for your teammates." - Coach Huska on San Jose's fourth goal of the game to steal the momentum back
"I thought tonight was similar to his first game in Texas, which I liked. [Dillon] was quiet last night, but tonight once we moved him with [Klimchuk] and [Smith], their line was very good and he was dangerous, created some chances for us and he was able to get a couple points." - Coach Huska on Dillon Dube's first pro points
"We can't control that stuff, we just have to be better when we play." - Coach Huska on focusing on what the Heat can control
