JORDAN SAMUELS-THOMAS LAUNCHES SAMUELS-THOMAS SCHOLARS ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE PROGRAM

SAN DIEGO - San Diego Gulls left wing Jordan Samuels-Thomas and his wife, Paula, have launched the Samuels-Thomas Scholars academic excellence program to reward San Diego elementary and middle school students for succeeding in the classroom and setting a positive example with their fellow classmates.

Samuels-Thomas Scholars will reward students for academic performance, classroom participation and leadership skills with the goal to make a positive impact with youth in local elementary schools and motivate students in the classroom for accomplishing educational goals. The program will also recognize special education students at the middle school level.

"My wife and I are thrilled to create the Samuels-Thomas Scholars program. Education has and always will be important to our family," said Jordan Samuels-Thomas. "San Diego's vibrant and diverse community has blessed us with the opportunity to work with kids from all walks of life and reward them for their academic efforts and achievements. Our efforts are focused to encourage kids to keep working hard no matter what adversity they face."

The academic program will see Samuels-Thomas recognize students once per month for meeting the goals of the program, as nominated by a scholastic panel made up of San Diego County elementary teachers and principals. The first recipients of the scholastic program will be recognized today, Nov. 24, when the Gulls host the Bakersfield Condors at Valley View Casino Center (7 p.m.).

Students recognized as a Samuels-Thomas Scholar will receive tickets to a Gulls game, a backpack of school supplies, highlighted in arena for their academic achievements, and a meet and greet with Samuels-Thomas and other Gulls players following the game.

The reward for the kids will be an opportunity to come to a Gulls Hockey game with their immediate family. The size of each students family's will dictate how many students we can recognize each month.
