Saturday night in Sault Ste. Marie the Storm dropped a 6-3 decision to the Greyhounds snapping their two game winning streak. The Storm traveled up north this past weekend to face the Soo Greyhounds and the Sudbury Wolves for the second time in a week. On Friday night Tyler Doig picked up his second hat trick of the year and Rafael Rotter recorded 3 points, one goal and two helpers, to give the Storm a 5-2 win over the Wolves. With two points over the weekend, Guelph's record improved to 11-9-1-3 with 26 points. They currently sit two points behind the Owen Sound Attack and Kitchener Rangers who are tied for second place in the Midwest Division.
Guelph Storm Grand & Toy Player of the Week (Week ending November 19th)
Tyler Doig- The Storm overager finished the week with four goals and one assist for five points in two games. Through 24 games this season, the Seaforth native has 16 goals and 20 assists for 36 points. Doig leads the Storm in points, goals and shorthanded goals and sits tied for second on the team in powerplay goals. The third year forward started the week withthree goals - two on the powerplay - and added an assist in Friday's 5-2 road win at Sudbury. Saturday night in Sault Ste. Marie, Doig scored his fourth of the week in a 6-3 loss versus the Greyhounds.
Drew Doughty and Ryan Parent to Represent Team Canada in the ADT Canada/Russia Series
On Thursday November 23rd and Monday November 27th, Drew Doughty and Ryan Parent will compete against the Russian National Junior Team in the 2006 ADT Canada Russia Challenge. Both players are veterans of international play having represented Canada and Ontario on the world stage at past events. Most recently, Doughty helped lead Canada's Under-18 National Team to a Gold Medal at the World U-18 Championship, while Parent helped Canada win a gold medal at the World Junior Championship in January. Both games will be broadcast nationally on Rogers Sportsnet, start time is 7:30 pm.
Guelph Storm vs. Guelph Police "No Stars": Saturday, November 25th
On Saturday, November 25th at 12:00pm the Guelph Storm take on the Guelph Police "No Stars" in the 5th Annual Constable Jay Pirie Memorial Game at the GSEC. All proceeds from the game go toward the Guelph and Wellington Special Olympics. For tickets to the event call Sergeant Doug Pflug at 519-824-1212 ext. 7233 or Paulette Korga at 519-824-1212 ext. 234. Tickets are general admission and cost $5.00 each.
Spyke's Sport Shop is Holiday Ready
New inventory is arriving weekly at Spyke's Sports Shop in Old Quebec Street Mall. Roots and Reebok merchandise are always available and would make great Christmas gifts. The store is open at all home games and during the week from 10 am-5 pm.
Tuesday, November 21st: Guelph Storm at Kitchener Rangers, 7:00 pm
The Storm travel to Kitchener on Tuesday night to take on the Rangers for their third of eight match-ups this year. These two teams face each other five more times during the regular season, three of which are played at the GSEC following the Christmas break. The regular season series is even so far with Guelph winning the first game 5-3 and Kitchener the second 3-2. The next contest between these rivals takes place on Tuesday, January 9th in Kitchener. Guelph currently sits two point s behind the Kitchener Rangers who are tied for second with the Owen Sound Attack in the Midwest Division.
Friday November 24th: Belleville Bulls at Guelph Storm, 7:30 pm
The Belleville Bulls make their only visit to Guelph this season on Friday night. The Bulls currently sit in first place in the East division with a record of 13-7-0-2 and 28 points. The only other match-up between these teams was in October when the Storm traveled to the Yardmen Arena and lost 3-2. This contest marks the teams final meeting between the two teams this year.
Rafael Rotter to Represent Austria in Under 20 World Junior Championship
Guelph Storm forward Rafael Rotter has been selected to play for Team Austria in the upcoming Under 20 World Junior Championships in Torre Italy from December 11th to the 17th. Rotter will miss six Storm games while he is gone beginning with the December 8th game versus the Owen Sound Attack. The 19 year old will be back with his Storm teammates after the Christmas break. Rotter will be playing in Division 1, Group B against France, Great Britain, Italy, Kazakhstan and Norway. Team Austria's schedule is as follows:
