The Grrrowl will be competing for the seventh season in the ECHL, and will host the Charlotte Checkers for opening night on Friday, October 22, 2004 at the BI-LO Center. Prior to the start of the season, a 14-day training camp period is scheduled to evaluate prospective talent for the upcoming season. Players will report to Greenville on Thursday, October 7th and will undergo physicals on Friday, October 8th prior to their first skate that evening. Two practices on Saturday and Sunday will precede the trip to Anchorage. The team will return to Greenville on Friday, October 15th and prepare for their home exhibition game against the Roanoke Express on Sunday afternoon, October 17, 2004 â a 3:05pm start.
"We are really looking forward to a unique training camp this year," stated John Marks, Grrrowl Head Coach and VP of Hockey Operations. "Our organization is committed to a return to the success level that we, and our fans, have become accustomed. Our training camp will be much different than in years' past, and our players will be competing very hard on a daily basis to earn a roster spot. The trip to Alaska will be an added bonus, and will give our young men a chance to bond as a team very early in the season. We know that we must come out of the blocks with fire early, and we will be looking to use a combination of contracted players from our affiliates as well as free agents and returning players to build a solid club."
