Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release

FLORENCE, SC – The Pee Dee Pride announced today the signing of center Pat O'Leary to a contract for the 2004-2005 season. O'Leary becomes the first new player signed by the team for the upcoming season.

The 24-year-old enters his third professional season in 2004-2005. O'Leary spent the previous two campaigns in the United Hockey League, mainly with the Kalamazoo Wings. Last season in 56 games, he tallied 19 goals and added 24 assists (43 points) to go along with 71 penalty minutes.

O'Leary was selected in the third round (73rd overall) by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to turning pro, he played four collegiate seasons with the University of Minnesota. He was part of the Golden Gophers' national championship squad during the 2001-2002 season.

"Pat will bring size in the middle for us at 6'3", coupled with the ability to score goals," Pride Head Coach Perry Florio said. "Pat comes with two years pro experience and an NCAA Division I National Championship. He will fit in nicely in a Pride sweater."

The Pride open the 2004-2005 regular season on Friday, October 22, hosting the Roanoke Express at 7:30 p.m. The Pride continue their season-opening three-game home stand on Saturday, October 23 taking on the Greensboro Generals at 7:30 p.m., and on Tuesday, October 26 with a 7:00 p.m. match-up with the Gwinnett Gladiators.
