Newfoundland Growlers News Release

The Newfoundland Growlers returned to home ice Tuesday night at Mile One Centre after a long 18-day road trip defeating the Worcester Railers 3-1. The win extends the Growlers winning streak to three games and marks back-to-back wins against the Railers.

Derian Plouffe opened the scoring 11:37 into the opening frame after finishing off a nice passing play with Scott Pooley and Ryan Moore. The lead didn't last long however as Josh Holmstrom took a perfect feed from Nick Bligh and was left all alone in front of Michael Garteig making no mistake tying it up at 1-1. Scott Pooley looked to re-store the Growlers lead with 1:40 to go in the first period but struck iron on his partial breakaway.

The second period saw some good chances at both ends, but the goalies stood tall keeping it a 1-1 tie going into the third period. The Growlers outshot the Railers 12-7 in the middle frame.

Josh Kestner finally broke the tie at 3:58 of the third period with a nice move in front of the net sliding it past Mitch Gillam giving the Growlers a 2-1 lead. Kesnter followed that up with a power play tally at 10:42 of the final frame re-directing a Stefan Leblanc point shot giving the Growlers their first two goal lead of the night.

The Railers applied some pressure just over two minutes to go in the game with both a power play and the goalie pulled for a 6-on-4, but some solid work by Michael Garteig preserved the lead.
