Grizzlies Win League Record Ninth Straight Game

The Gateway Grizzlies re-wrote a page in the Frontier League record book Thursday night, capturing a league-record ninth straight win 11-7 over the Mid-Missouri Mavericks in front of 2,231 at GMC Stadium. The Grizzlies went down 2-0 before scoring six in the bottom of the second inning, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Ben Piatt. The Mavericks added two in the third, before the Grizzlies went up 7-4 with a run in the fourth. The Mavericks got within one, but the Grizzlies added four in the seventh, including a three-run home run from Tony Coyne. That put them up 11-6. Mid-Missouri closed out the scoring with a run in the ninth, but the Grizzlies held on for the win. Coyne was three-for-five with five RBIs on the night. Piatt was one-for-four with thee RBIs. Horace Lawrence and Brandon Talbot each added an RBI on the night. Joe Dooley picked up his first win. He went five innings, allowing six runs, four earned. He walked four and he struck out a season-high 11. The Grizzlies head to Kenosha for a three-game set against the Mammoths. They will return home on Tuesday to begin a six-game homestand.
