The Gateway Grizzlies won their fifth straight game Sunday afternoon, defeating the Kalamazoo Kings 11-5 in front of 3,629 at GCS Ballpark. The Grizzlies swept the three-game series from the Kings, after Kalamzoo swept the Grizzlies June 16-18 in Kalamazoo.
The Grizzlies (23-9) hit five home runs Sunday afternoon, and 10 in the three-game series. The Grizzlies hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the third inning-the first time in franchise history that has happened. Mike Breyman started the barrage with his seventh. Dustin Roberts followed with his 10th, before Stephen Holdren hit his 10th. The three-homer attack put the Grizzlies up 6-2.
Jonathan Armitage put the Grizzlies up 3-0 in the first with a three-run homer, his fifth on the year.
The Grizzlies made it 8-2 in the fourth on a two-run single by Roberts. Roberts finished 2-5 with three RBIs.
Holdren capped the scoring in the sixth with his second long ball of the day, and his 11th of the season. The three-run shot made it 11-4. Holdren was 2-5 with four RBIs.
Erik Dessau (4-0) started for the Grizzlies and went seven innings. He allowed all five runs, just three earned, on 12 hits. He struck out seven.
The Grizzlies and the Frontier League take a Monday day off. The Grizzlies will welcome the River City Rascals to town for a two-game series beginning Tuesday night at GCS Ballpark.
