Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things (18-13), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, took the final game of the three game series with the Evansville Otters (16-16) on Sunday night, winning 6-2.
Evansville would get on the board first when Otters third baseman Cody Montgomery led off the second inning with a walk. He would later score on a double to the gap by designated hitter Matt Reynolds putting the Otters on top early, 1-0.
The Wild Things came up with two runs on their own in the bottom half of the inning. With a man at second and third and one out, second baseman Rene Quintana hit a single just out of reach of Otters second baseman Kyle Smith. Two runs would score on the play and put the Wild Things up 2-1 after two innings.
Quintana came through once again in the bottom of the fourth inning. With one man in scoring position and one man out, Quintana blasted a ball deep to right field. Otters right fielder Adam Heffron lunged for the ball but came up short as Quintana rounded the bases for an inside-the-park home run and increase the Wild Things' lead to 4-1.
The Wild Things would give up a run in the top of the seventh when error by Kyle Padgett and a misjudged fly ball right fielder Jarod Rine would bring home a run and cut the Wild Things' lead to 4-2.
The Wild Things would gain that run back in the bottom of the seventh. After a hit batsmen and an error on Otters first baseman Matt Edwards, Chris Sidick hit a shallow fly ball to right fielder Adam Heffron. Heffron was unable to hold onto the ball and Kyle Padgett scored from third base to put increase the Wild Things' lead to 5-2. The Wild Things tacked on one more in the eighth inning to go on top 6-2.
Meanwhile, on the mound, Tom Cochran (4-1) had a very strong outing, pitching seven innings, allowing only three hits and one earned run while striking out six Otters.
The Wild Things have Monday off and will begin a new series at Florence against the Freedom starting Tuesday, June 26th. The Wild Things next home series begins June 29th against the Slippery Rock Sliders. For tickets, call the Wild Things Box Office at 724-250-9555.
