Grizzlies Take 1-0 Overtime Win; Lead Series 3-2
April 19, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies defeated the Fresno Falcons in overtime 1-0 Saturday night at the E-Center. Keith Johnson scored the game-winning goal 3:38 into overtime to break the scoreless tie. Utah now takes a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven playoff series.
Utah thought they had taken a 1-0 lead early in the first period, but referee Max Battimo had blown the play dead before the puck crossed the goal line and the game remained scoreless until the game-winning goal.
Rookie goaltender Nathan Lawson stopped all 34 shots he saw for his third career shutout.
The Grizzlies have now won both games in this series that have gone to overtime. Tonight was the first night in the series where the home team has won a game.
Utah will attempt to advance to the National Conference semi-finals Monday with a win as the series now reverts back to Save Mart Center in Fresno. Face-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
