
Grizzlies split with RiverHawks

The Gateway Grizzlies snapped a three-game losing streak with a win in the final game of a five-game series, defeating the Rockford RiverHawks 9-4 Saturday night in Rockford. The Grizzlies dropped the completion of a suspended game 2-1 earlier in the evening.
After the series the Grizzlies are 43-43. Rockford is 45-41 and lead the Grizzlies by two games for the final playoff spot in the West division.
In game two the Grizzlies trailed 4-0 heading into the fifth inning before loading the bases with one out. Mike Breyman singled to drive in two, before Thomari Story-Harden drove in a run with a base hit. With two outs Rockford intentionally walked Ben Margalski to load the bases for Ryan Sullivan. Sullivan crushed the first pitch he saw from reliever Curt Borland deep over the left field wall for his first career grand slam. The Grizzlies added two runs in the seventh. Sullivan came up with another RBI in he seventh.
Sullivan was 2-4 with five RBIs in the finale. He finished the series with two home runs and nine RBIs.
Scott Nicholson (2-1) tossed his first complete game for the win in game two. He allowed four runs on six hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out three.
Game one went eight innings. Rockford rookie Jake Dickinson broke a 1-1 tie with his first home run off of reliever Scott Patterson.
