ROCKFORD, Ill. - Saturday's action produced mixed results as Rockford and Gateway each came away with a win but the âHawks took the series, three games to two.
As the first part of a doubleheader, the âHawks and Grizzlies completed Friday's game that was suspended because of rain. Play resumed on Saturday with Gateway leading 1-0 in the top of the fourth inning.
Rockford tied the game in the sixth on Ashley Farr's RBI single and forced extra innings. Jake Dickinson gave the âHawks a 2-1 walk-off win with a solo homer in the eighth off reliever Scott Patterson (1-1). Jason Glosser (7-3) threw two scoreless innings of relief for his seventh victory.
In the nightcap, Rockford blew a 4-0 lead as Gateway came from behind to win, 9-4, scoring seven times in the fifth inning. The big blow of the frame was Ryan Sullivan's grand slam off losing pitcher Curt Borland (2-4).
Gateway starter Scott Nicholson (2-1) threw a complete-game for the victory. He allowed four runs on six hits and did not walk a batter.
Olmo Rosario hit his ninth home run of the season-a solo shot in the first-in a losing effort.
The RiverHawks play another doubleheader starting at 5:05 p.m. on Sunday as they begin their final road trip of the season in Mid-Missouri. Rockford is back at Marinelli Field on Wednesday, August 31 to begin six home games in a row to close out the regular season.
The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
