Grizzlies Return to the Airwaves

May 13, 2011 - Frontier League (FL)
Gateway Grizzlies News Release

Gateway Grizzlies fans who can't make it to the ballpark will once again have a chance to stay close to all of the action by tuning into the Gateway Grizzlies Radio Network in 2011.

The new "Voice of the Grizzlies" Adam Young handles the play-by-play duties for the 96-game regular season schedule, as well as one exhibition game. The Grizzlies broadcast schedule begins with a May 18th broadcast of the Grizzlies exhibition matchup with Division I SIU Edwardsville. Young, a 2010 SIUE graduate, will team up with former Grizzlies Voice and current SIUE Cougars Voice Joe Pott to bring fans the action on the Grizzlies Radio Network.

"We are pleased to add an exhibition game to our broadcast schedule this season," Young said. "I'm excited to team up with Joe for the exhibition game after spending so much time with him in the booth the last two seasons. We are familiar with both teams so it should make for a great broadcast."

The Grizzlies regular season opens up on May 20th at home against the 2010 West-Division champion Southern Illinois Miners.

The Grizzlies Radio Network stays the same in 2011. 590 AM KFNS once again serves as the flagship station while 1400 AM KJFF is the affiliate station. Fans can also listen online at www.gatewaygrizzlies.com and www.kfns.com. Every Grizzlies broadcast starts 15-minutes before the first pitch with the Budweiser Pregame Show. The Bel-O Sales and Service Postgame Show wraps up every broadcast.

The 22-year-old Young, who also broadcasts for Division II McKendree University and fills in at SIUE in the offseason, will be joined in the booth this season by recent Indiana University graduate Alex Cohen. Cohen will join Young on all of the home broadcasts.

"Alex is a talented, energetic, up and coming sportscaster," Young remarked. "He has a lot of energy and I know he will be a big contributor to our broadcasts and everything we are trying to do social media wise."

Grizzlies fans should keep a close eye on the team website, as well as the Grizzlies facebook and youtube pages this season. The Grizzlies are set to launch a new online show debuting around the start of the season. Fans can also get all the latest Grizzlies information by checking out Adam's blog, www.adamyoungontheair.blogspot.com.

The Gateway Grizzlies open their 11th season in the Frontier League on Friday, May 20th at 7:05 p.m. when the defending West Division Champion Southern Illinois Miners come to town. Single game and Groups Tickets are currently on sale.
