Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, Pa. - Washington, Pa. - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, fell two runs short of a victory against the Lake Erie Crushers at CONSOL Energy Park on Friday night.

The first batter of the game, Lake Erie's Raphael Turner, crushed a ball that flew out of the park. The Crushers added another run to give the visitors a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

The Wild Things came back with good offense and defense in the second, first by getting two Crushers' players out in a double play. Then, in the bottom of the inning, Washington took the lead with three runs on two hits from Stephen Hermann and Wilson Matos.

A half inning later however, the Crushers scored two runs and regained the lead 4-3.

By the start of the seventh, the Crushers had pulled ahead 6 - 3.

The Wild Things rallied in the seventh and managed to tie the game, thanks to a bases-loaded hit by Scott Lawson. The Crushers bounced back again, taking an 8-6 lead in the next inning that would hold this time.

The Wild things travel to Lake Erie tomorrow for another exhibition game between the two clubs before the Frontier League season kicks off officially next week.

The Wild Things will open their "9 + one" season presented by National Gold & Silver Refinery at CONSOL Energy Park on May 24 against the Traverse City Beach Bums. Season ticket, half-season and mini plan packages are on sale now, and deposits for group tickets are being accepted.
