Fresno Grizzlies News Release

FRESNO, CA - When the Fresno Grizzlies return home from an eight-game road trip on Thursday, May 15th, they will do so with a gnarly special guest in attendance. Chukchansi Park will host "Totally Rad 80's Night Featuring Billy Zabka" on May 15th when the Grizzlies open a series against the Colorado Springs SkySox. Zabka, an Oscar-nominated actor, is best known from his starring role alongside Ralph Macchio as ‘Johnny Lawrence' in The Karate Kid. The Fresno Grizzlies are celebrating the 1980's, because the 80's are cool...again.

An Ocean Pacific shirt or Guess jeans now command second glances for a second time. The He-Man lunchbox you took your PB&J sandwich to elementary school in, are available online if you have a credit card handy. 80's radio stations are building radio towers from coast-to-coast. Crimped hair is no longer a fashion faux pas and Hypercolor t-shirts don't elicit steely glances from passers-by. The 80's were big for a reason, and now they're big again for the same reasons.

The Grizzlies will celebrate this resurgent decade to the max on Thursday, May 15th with mondo music, mega movies, def imagery, killer fashions, and totally fly personalities from the 80's. Additionally, Colorado Springs player headshots on the video board will be replaced by their Garbage Pail Kids' counterparts (see attachment), the Drag Kings will perform, and the Grizzlies have plenty more surprises in store.

The star of the shibby show however, will be one of the most recognizable faces of 1980's cinema. Children of the 80's undoubtedly grew up with Billy Zabka as the leader of the Cobra Kai in "The Karate Kid", as the diver extraordinaire in "Back to School", or as the bully in "Just One of the Guys". Zabka will sign autographs, take photos with fans, and participate in on-field entertainment throughout the night.

"Having Billy join us for our all-out tribute to the 80's is a dream come true for most of us," said Scott Carter, Vice President of Marketing for the Grizzlies. "This event is something we have looked forward to for a long time and we know that our fans are going to have an absolute blast."

Grizzlies fans will be encouraged, as will front office staff, to participate in the throwback festivities. The team will hand out prizes to the fans that wear the best 1980's outfit, and staff will be sporting 80's threads as well. In addition to the special 80's Night features, May 15th is a Thirsty Thursday at Chukchansi Park. 12oz Tecate Light beers are available through the 5th inning for just $1, and $1 sodas are available all night long.

The Grizzlies open an eight-game homestand on Tuesday that will take them to New Orleans and Oklahoma City before they return home on Thursday, May 15th for Totally Rad 80's Night Featuring Billy Zabka.
