Utah Grizzlies News Release
The Utah Grizzlies had four big Western Divisional showdowns on the calendar this past week and started it in Houston on Tuesday during a Kid's Day game with a start time of 11:00 AM. Dana Lattery started the scoring for the Grizzlies in the first period but Houston answered with three straight goals taking a 3-1 lead early in the second period. Jakub Koreis scored for the Grizzlies making it a 3-2 game but the Aeros answered with two goals to finish the game at 5-2. On Wednesday, the Grizzlies played a strong game leading the Wolves 2-1 in the third period behind goals from Randall Gelech and Kiel McLeod. A five-minute major penalty against Keith Ballard and several other undisciplined plays gave the Wolves power play opportunities that they capitalized on finishing the game 3 for 8 on the power play and with the one goal victory. Utah's offense exploded in Grand Rapids with first period goals from Aaron Gavey and Terry Virtue and goals in the second period from Virtue, Justin Cox and Erik Westrum taking a commanding 5-0 lead. Grand Rapids scored two goals in the second half of the game but goaltender Jamie Storr, playing in his first game with Utah, made 40 saves earning the victory. On Saturday afternoon, Storr again was sharp stopping 35 shots but the Admirals offense was too much tacking on an empty-net goal for a 4-1 victory. Randall Gelech scored the only goal of the game for Utah, his team-leading 11th goal of the season.
