Plekanec named Most Valuable Player of 2005 AHL All-Star game

Manchester, NH - Hamilton Bulldogs forward Tomas Plekanec scored one goal in regulation time, one goal in the shootout, and was named the Dodge Most Valuable Player, as the PlanetUSA All-Stars defeated the Canadian All-Stars 5-4 in a shootout at the 2005 AHL All-Star game held Monday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

Plekanec is the first ever Hamilton Bulldogs player to earn the honour of being named the AHL All-Star Game's Most Valuable Player.

Plekanec sparked the PlanetUSA All-Stars comeback by scoring their first goal, after the Canadian All-Stars took a 4-0 lead in the first period. The 22-year-old native of Kladno, Czech Republic got the PlanetUSA All-Stars on the scoreboard at the 3:34 mark of the second period with his first AHL All-Star goal.

The PlanetUSA All-Stars would score twice more in the second period with goals from Andy Hilbert (Providence Bruins) and Brandon Bochenski (Binghamton Senators), and add another marker in the third period from Mikko Koivu (Houston Aeros) to send the game to a shootout.

The PlanetUSA All-Stars won the game in the shootout, scoring on all three of their opportunities, while the Canadian All-Stars could not put a puck past goaltender Ryan Miller (Rochester Americans). Scoring for the PlanetUSA in the shootout were Zach Parise, (Albany River Rats), Tomas Plekanec, and Andy Hilbert.

The PlanetUSA victory snapped a five-game losing streak to the Canadian All-Stars in the AHL All-Star Game.
