
Michel Ouellet records two points in AHL All-Star Game

MANCHESTER, NH â Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins forward Michel Ouellet recorded a goal and an assist for the Canadian AHL All-Star team tonight in the 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Game at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H. The PlanetUSA All-Star team rallied from a 4-0 deficit to win 5-4 in a shootout.
Ouellet, who was appearing in his first AHL All-Star game, recorded two points and was a plus-one with two shots in the game. He scored at 12:50 of the first period to give the Canadian All-Stars a 2-0 lead. Ouellet later assisted on Rene Bourque's goal at 17:46 of the first period for his second point of the game. He and fellow Canadian All-Star teammate Patrice Bergeron were the game's high-scorers. Bergeron collected two assists in the loss.
The 6-foot, 202-pound native of Rimouski, Quebec is second on the Penguins in scoring with 51 points (30+21) in 51 games this season. Ouellet, who recorded his 30th goal of the season in Saturday's 2-1 win over Lowell, is ranked among the league leaders in goals (tied for first), plus/minus rating (second with a +29 rating) and scoring (tied for eleventh). He is the first player in team history to recorded back-to-back 30-goal seasons.
An AHL All-Rookie selection last season, he led the Penguins in scoring with 49 points (30+19) in 79 games in 2003-04. Ouellet also led all AHL rookies in goals, power-play goals (12), game-winning goals (7) and ranked fifth in scoring. In his first full season with the Penguins, he set new team records for game-winning goals in a season and goals by a rookie.
Ouellet was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fourth round (124TH overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
The Penguins (26-14-5-6, 63 points, 2ND-Place, East Division) begin a three-game road trip on Thursday when they visit the Portland Pirates (20-24-2-3, 47 points, 6TH -Place, Atlantic Division). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
