
Grizzlies pick up first win

The Gateway Grizzlies got out some frustration Saturday night-rolling over the Kalamazoo Kings 11-3 in front of 3,522 at GMC Stadium. The Grizzlies 1-3. The Kings are 3-1.
The Grizzlies trailed 1-0 before an eight-run sixth inning put them ahead for good. They added two more in the seventh and a solo shot in the eighth.
Brandon Smith (1-0) pitched six strong innings to earn the win. Smith allowed a run on three hits and struck out six. He did not walk a hitter.
Phil Warren led the way offensively. Warren was 1-4. He capped the sixth inning with a towering three-run home run, his first of the year. Mike Breyman was 1-4 with a solo home run. Ryan Sullivan was 2-3 with an RBI. Gary Gilbert was 2-4 with an RBI. Jon Brewster and Todd Oetting each added an RBI.
The Grizzlies and Kings continue the series with a 6:05 game Sunday evening at GMC Stadium.
