Richmond Roosters News Release

Richmond, Indiana – The Richmond Roosters fell to the Florence Freedom 6-4 on Fireworks Night on Friday. Roosters starting pitcher Tony Casoli threw six innings, gave up four runs, two earned, ten hits, and struck out seven. The Freedom scored early off Casoli, who settled down in the later innings, but still took the loss.

Joel Posey started on the mound for the Florence Freedom and gave up only two earned runs over 5-1/3 innings on his way to the win, the seventh of his career, tying Bobby Graves for the Florence franchise record.

Florence scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning on a ground out to third by Jeremy Ison that plated Trevor Hall. Brandon Cornell doubled two batters later to score two runs and give the Freedom a 3-0 lead. Richmond got on the board with a single to right field by Kevin White in the third inning that brought in Gerald Miller. This was the first start in the 2005 season for White, the Frontier League "Jason Simontacchi Rookie of the Year " last season. The Roosters got another run in the fourth inning when a wild pitch from Posey scored Hector Urena from third with the bases loaded. Richmond was down 6-2 in the bottom of the ninth when White capped off his debut as a starter with a two-run home run that gave him his three hits on the night.

The Roosters lost the game, but the fans were still entertained with a spectacular fireworks show that started shortly after the game. Richmond begins a 15-game, 17-day road trip on Saturday that visits every team in the Frontier League Eastern Division and begins in Washington. The Roosters will take on the Wild Things at 6:05 Indiana time at Falconi Field. Curt Moenter is the scheduled starter for the Roosters and Brian Burk will take the mound for Washington.
