SAUGET, Ill. - The Gateway Grizzlies salvaged the finale of a three-game series with the River City Rascals, winning 9-4 Thursday night at GCS Credit Union Ballpark.
Gateway (8-10) piled up a season-high 17 hits; every starter reached base and eight had at least one hit. Blake Brown went 3-for-3 with a walk, stolen base, RBI and four runs scored. Trae Santos had his third home run of the season - and second in as many nights - as part of a 4-for-5 performance. Cody Livesay, Brennan Morgan and Terry McClure all added multi-hit games of their own.
Mike Elwood (1-1) picked up his first win of the year with seven innings of two-run ball. He struck out seven.
River City (11-6) took a brief 2-1 lead in the second inning, but the Grizzlies responded with eight unanswered runs to pull away.
