Gateway Grizzlies News Release
Evansville, Ind. - After a rain delay that lasted nearly three hours on Wednesday afternoon, the Gateway Grizzlies exploded for nine runs on 13 hits as they beat the Evansville Otters, 9-1. Gateway has won the first two games of their series at Bosse Field.
The teams played a scoreless first inning before the rain began to pour in Evansville. RHP Tyler Vail exited the game following the delay and gave way to LHP Dylan Badura (1-1).
Badura tossed a scoreless second inning but got clobbered in the third as Gateway (12-18) scored five runs on five hits. It started with a one-out single from Cody Livesay and that was followed by Seth Heck's RBI double to deep left field. Brandon Thomas then stepped in with two runners on and ripped a two-run triple to centerfield. Blake Brown capped off the frame by hitting a double to deep center, which plated a pair of runs.
Meanwhile, Grizzlies right-hander Vince Molesky (2-1) sat through the rain delay and put together a quality outing. He went six innings and allowed just one run to pick up the victory. He struck out nine batters.
LHP Jon Jones and RHP Will LaMarche combined to shut out the Otters (19-11) in the final three innings of the game.
Thomas continued his terrific series with his fourth home run of the season in the seventh. Tyler Tewell laced a bases clearing triple in the eighth to put the ballgame away.
The Grizzlies go for a sweep on Thursday evening at Bosse Field. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m. Gateway sends LHP Corey Kimes to the mound against LHP Payton Baskette for the Otters.
The game can be heard on the Grizzlies Radio Network, which airs Thursday on 1400 AM KJFF and www.GatewayGrizzlies.com/Radio. Sam Levitt has the play-by-play call.
