Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - Utah Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Colley announced today that the team has traded defenseman Slavomir Tomko to the Wheeling Nailers in exchange for future considerations. The Grizzlies acquired Tomko from Elmira in June.
"We were excited to add a defenseman the caliber of Slavomir earlier this summer," said Colley. "However, with us yesterday adding our new working agreement with the Calgary Flames; along with our current affiliation with the New York Islanders and the influx of talent both will be providing us; we felt that it was best for Slavomir to be given a chance to develop to his full potential in an environment where he will be able to get more ice time."
Utah enters their fifth year in the ECHL and their third-straight season as an affiliate of the New York Islanders. On September 16, 2009, the Grizzlies announced that they will also be adding up to four prospects this season from the Calgary Flames. Head Coach Kevin Colley returns to the Utah bench this upcoming season after signing a multi-year contract extension on April 20, 2009. Colley, who at the age of 30 is the youngest coach in the ECHL, led the Grizzlies to the playoffs for the third time in four years during his rookie head coaching campaign.
