Grizzlies Beat Alaska 5-2; Take Three of Four Points In Anchorage

Anchorage, Alaska - The Utah Grizzlies (1-0-1-0) defeated the Alaska Aces 5-2 Saturday night at Sullivan Arena and sit alone on top of the Mountain Division after one weekend of ECHL play.

"We once again got outstanding goaltending that gave us a chance to win," said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley. "We'll build on the positives and get better this week in practice."

Utah trailed 1-0 in the first period and led 3-2 at the start of the third period, holding on despite four third period shorthanded situations. Brad Snetsinger totaled two third period goals and added two assists on his way to a four-point night and goaltender J.P. Lamoureux stopped 34 of 36 in the win.

Utah was outshot 18-5 in the first period and killed 1:45 of five-on-three shorthanded hockey in the first seven minutes before Alaska took a 1-0 lead on a four-on-four goal at 8:21. Hugo Carpentier tied the contest at one at 15:28 of the first period on a power-play goal.

Utah tallied two goals in 1:14 at 3:34 and 4:48 of the second period to take a 3-1 lead with Carpentier again scoring and David Schulz scoring as well.

Utah took a 4-2 lead on a shorthanded snipe by Snetsinger at 15:54 of the third before he added an empty-net goal at 18:56.

Utah opens their 2010-2011 home schedule at Maverik Center Friday, October 22 and Saturday, October 23 when they will welcome the Bakersfield Condors.
