Grizzlies assigned eight players from Coyotes

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- The Utah Grizzlies National Hockey League (NHL) affiliate, the Phoenix Coyotes, announced today that they have assigned eight players to the Grizzlies. Coyotes General Manager Michael Barnett made the announcement.

The Coyotes assigned defensemen Keith Ballard, Joe Callahan and Dustin Wood and forwards Randall Gelech, Jakub Koreis, Kiel McLeod, Lance Monych and Mike Stutzel to the Utah Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies will open their training camp on September 29, 2004 in Salt Lake City, Utah and will play their first preseason game versus the Edmonton Road Runners (the Edmonton Oilers American Hockey League affiliate) on October 8 in Boise, Idaho. The Grizzlies will lay their first regular season game on October 13 versus Cincinnati.

The Coyotes also announced today that the following players have been returned to their respective junior clubs and university teams:

Brodie Beard (Ottawa - OHL)
Ryan Bowness - (St. Mary's College - CIS)
Kevin Cormier (Halifax - QMJHL)
Ryan Gibbons (Seattle - WHL)
Ryan Jenner (Victoriaville - QMJHL)
Olivier Latendresse (Val-d'Or Foreurs - QMJHL)
Derek Merlini (Erie - OHL)
Tyler Redenbach (Swift Current - WHL)
Logan Stephenson (Tri-City - WHL)
Roman Tomanek (Calgary - WHL)

Goaltender Frank Doyle (Maine - HE) has signed an American Hockey League contract with the Utah Grizzlies and will attend the Grizzlies training camp beginning September 29. Left wing Landon Bathe (Maine - HE) will also attend the Utah Grizzlies training camp. Paulo Colaiacovo (Barrie - OHL) and Matt Nicholson (Colgate - ECAC) were released from their Amateur Try-Out Agreements.
