
Grizzlies Announce 2014 All-Stars; All-Star Game July 16 at GCS Ballpark

SAUGET, Ill. - The Gateway Grizzlies are pleased to announce four players will stay at home and play in the 2014 Frontier League All-Star game, which will be held at GCS Ballpark on July 16th.
Michael Wing, Landon Hernandez, Ja'Vaun West and Aaron Newcomb were all tabbed All-Stars Monday morning. Rosters were selected by league managers, coaches, general managers, broadcasters and media.
"All four guys are very deserving of this honor," Grizzlies manager Phil Warren said. "It's great to see them rewarded for an outstanding first half. I know they will make our fans proud."
Wing, who will be the starting shortstop for the West Division, is batting .321 with six home runs and 29 runs batted in. Wing is also tied for the team-lead with 11 doubles.
Hernandez will make his third consecutive All-Star appearance as the backup catcher on the West Division. Despite missing the first two weeks of the season, the 27-year-old is batting .265 with three home runs and 16 driven in.
After heading to his first All-Star game in 2013, West will go back for the second straight season in 2014. The right-hander from Atlanta, Mo. is 6-1 with a 3.23 ERA this season and leads the league in strikeouts with 64. He has walked only 15 batters in eight starts.
Newcomb, a native of Carlyle, Ill. gets the nod in his first year in the league. Newcomb is tied for the league-lead in wins with 7 in only nine starts. The right-hander out of the Angels organization has an ERA of 3.67.
Coaching staffs for the game will be the leading team in each division at the end of the games on Wednesday. Coaching staffs will then select an additional three players each.
