Grizzlies Advance with 5-0 Win Over Stockton: Host Victoria Friday, Saturday

West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies shutout the Stockton Thunder 5-0 Sunday afternoon in Stockton to win the best-of-five first round series three games to one.

Utah opens the Western Conference semi-finals with home-ice advantage in a 2-3-2 best-of-seven series against Victoria starting Friday and Saturday at Maverik Center. Face-off each evening is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

"We came out strong and scored some timely goals early," said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley. "We had great goaltending again and it was all and all a good team effort the whole series. We just need to keep getting better and better."

J.P. Lamoureux stopped all 20 shots that he saw for his first shutout of the post-season, his fourth career playoff shutout and his sixth overall shutout of the year.

Utah broke the game open with three goals in 7:41 late in the first period, that was capped off by a Matt Reber breakaway with two seconds left in the first. Hugo Carpentier got the scoring started 12:17 in the first period on a shot from the circle as Utah still held the puck in from a power-play. Paul McIlveen made it 2-0 2:16 later as he went coast-to-coast off of a Lamoureux save and a Reber setup.

Reber fed Samson Mahbod for his first career playoff goal 2:39 into the third period to make to it 4-0.

Kevin Deeth capped off the scoring with a power-play goal with 1:26 left to make it 5-0. Dave Schulz and Riley Emmerson picked up assists.

Reber, McIlveen and Deeth all had one goal and one assist.
