Elmira Jackals News Release

Greenville, S.C. - The Elmira Jackals' run in the 2011 Kelly Cup Playoffs came to an end on Saturday night at the BI-LO Center, as the Greenville Road Warriors prevailed with a 2-1 victory in double overtime in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. Marco Cousineau turned in a spectacular effort in net for the Jackals, making 47 saves on 49 shots as the Jackals fell in the series to the Road Warriors, three games to one.

Yannick Tifu scored Elmira's lone goal of the contest, snapping in a shot from the left circle past the stick of Road Warriors netminder Chris Beckford-Tseu to give the Jackals the 1-0 advantage at 9:29 of the first period.

Andrew Rowe redirected a Sam Klassen blue-line bid into the net 58 seconds into the second period to even the score, 1-1.

As the teams skated late into the third period, Cousineau began to make tremendous saves on Road Warriors chances as they tried to win the game late in regulation.

Cousineau took his play to a new level in overtime, making furious stops on outstanding opportunities by Greenville, including an unthinkable save moving to his right on Rowe in the first overtime period on what looked to be a definite goal.

After Cousineau denied Marc-Olivier Vallerand from the left circle just past the six-minute mark of the second overtime, Sean Berkstresser snapped in the series winner off of a faceoff to give Greenville the 2-1 victory at 6:22.

Beckford-Tseu made 26 saves on 27 shots as Greenville advanced to the Eastern Conference Semifinals to play the Wheeling Nailers.

Tifu and Justin Donati tied for Elmira's postseason lead with five points. Cousineau posted a .938 save percentage and a 1.91 goals-against average in four playoff games.
