Condors drop series with 3-2 overtime heartbreaker

BAKERSFIELD, Calif - The Bakersfield Condors tied the game up with less than 10 minutes left, but eventually fell at 4:26 of the extra frame as the Victoria Salmon Kings earned the series victory 3 games to 1 in front of 4,280 fans at Rabobank Arena on Saturday night.

RW Stephane Goulet opened up the scoring in the first period. RW Pascal Morency fed a perfect pass to Goulet on the left post, and Goulet shoveled it over G David Shantz to give Bakersfield a 1-0 lead.

The score remained 1-0 until late in the second period. A bench minor on the Condors gave Victoria a late power play, and RW Milan Gajic tallied just 16 seconds into the power play evening the score at 1-1. The Salmon Kings took the lead heading into the second intermission when a 2-on-1 rush ended with C Adam Taylor tapping in a shot with 6 seconds left in the frame.

D Josh Burrows became the second rookie defenseman to score for the Condors in this series when he sent the game into overtime. A shot from D Joey Ryan sailed wide of the net, but Burrows picked up the rebound and fired a shot through traffic to bring the score to 2-2 going into the extra frame.

A former Condor struck for Victoria 4:26 into overtime to put a close to the Condors season. A shot sailed over the crossbar, but bounced off the glass and back into the crease where LW Chad Painchaud was waiting to tap the puck into the net, ending the game with a 3-2 OT victory.
